U3A

Bishop Auckland & District u3a

On 2nd June the National u3a movement celebrated u3a day, highlighting the activities of u3a groups throughout the country.

Founded in 1982, u3a is a UK-wide collection of locally run groups that provide a wide range of opportunities to come together to learn for fun. People enjoy exploring new ideas, skills and activities together. There are 1039 u3a groups with over 430,000 members. Membership costs on average less than £20 a year and is open to everyone who is no longer in full time work. Almost half a million members cannot be wrong.

Bishop Auckland & District u3a is 21 years old this July. We have over 200 active members and there are more than 20 interest groups covering History, Spanish and Italian, Art and Architecture, Reading, Poetry, Genealogy, Walking, Current Affairs, Garden Visits, Theatre, Wildlife, Science and Technology, Bridge, Bowls, Maths and String Band. There are also monthly speaker meetings. There is a lot going on-many of our groups have continued during the lockdown by using ZOOM!

The u3a is an organisation for women and men from all backgrounds. we meet at the Town Hall, Bishop Auckland and are looking to restart face to face meetings soon. Why not come along and see what we have to offer!
